How to Export Apple Health Data from iPhone
There are two very different kinds of Health export on iPhone: Apple’s complete archive and a focused export of selected categories and dates.
Selected Health records, in a format you can actually use.
Learn the main ways to export Apple Health data from iPhone, including Apple’s built-in full export and a focused CSV or PDF workflow for selected categories and dates.
Export Health
Export selected Apple Health records as CSV or create a readable PDF summary with key metrics, monthly trends, and data coverage details.
Apple’s built-in Health export
The Health app includes an option to export all Health data. That built-in export is useful when you want a comprehensive archive, but the result is designed as a complete data export rather than a quick spreadsheet or readable report.
For many everyday tasks, the question is narrower: export steps for the last year, review heart-rate trends, save a sleep summary, or create a file that is easy to open and share.
A focused category-and-date-range export
Export Health is built for that narrower workflow. You choose from eight supported categories — Steps, Active Energy, Walking + Running Distance, Sleep Analysis, Flights Climbed, Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, and Body Weight — and select the date range you want.
Then choose CSV for individual records or PDF Summary for a readable overview.
What the PDF Summary adds
The PDF is not simply a printout of raw rows. Depending on the categories and available records, it creates metric cards such as total steps, active energy, total distance, average heart rate, average resting heart rate, average sleep, flights climbed, or latest weight.
It can also include monthly trend charts and a data-coverage section showing the selected range and the dates of records Apple Health actually returned.
Privacy and Health permissions
Export Health requests read access to the supported categories. It does not request permission to write Health data, and OpsOh does not collect the Health data used in the export.
The export exists on your device until you decide to save or share it somewhere else.
Which export method should you use?
Use Apple's built-in export when you want a broad archive of Health data. Use a focused CSV export when you want selected records in spreadsheet form. Use a PDF Summary when you want a human-readable overview for personal review or sharing.
A PDF summary should not be treated as a diagnosis or medical interpretation. It reflects selected Health records and simple calculations only.
Apple’s full export versus a focused export
Apple provides its own built-in Export All Health Data option in the Health app. Apple documents that export as an XML export of your health and fitness data. That is useful when you want the complete machine-readable archive.
A focused export solves a different problem. Export Health lets you choose from eight supported categories, choose a date range, and then create either a CSV of the individual records or a PDF summary. The point is not to replace Apple’s complete archive; it is to make a smaller, purpose-specific export easier to use.
Apple’s current instructions for the built-in export are available in its Health data sharing guide.
What Export Health can read
The supported categories are Steps, Active Energy, Walking + Running Distance, Sleep Analysis, Flights Climbed, Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, and Body Weight. The app asks for read access only to the categories it supports.
Health permissions remain under your control in iOS. If permission is not granted for a category, or if the selected date range contains no records that Health makes available to the app, that data cannot appear in the export.
Choose CSV when you need rows; choose PDF when you need a summary
CSV and PDF are intentionally different outputs. CSV preserves individual Health samples with category, start date, end date, value, and unit. It is the better choice when you want to sort, filter, calculate, or import the records elsewhere.
The PDF Summary is for quick review. It turns available records into key metric cards and, where supported, monthly trend charts. It also records the selected date range and the coverage represented by the data that was actually returned.
What a focused export does not do
Export Health does not diagnose conditions, interpret whether a metric is good or bad, or recommend treatment. It also does not write new values back into Apple Health. The app’s job is deliberately narrower: read selected records you authorize, organize them into a useful export, and let you save or share the result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export only part of my Apple Health data?
With Export Health, you can select supported categories and a date range rather than exporting an all-or-nothing archive.
What Health categories does Export Health support?
Steps, Active Energy, Walking + Running Distance, Sleep Analysis, Flights Climbed, Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, and Body Weight.
Can I export Health data as a PDF?
Export Health can create a PDF Summary from selected supported categories and dates.
Why might older data be missing?
The app can only export records Apple Health makes available on the device. Older data that was not restored, synced, or stored there may not be returned.
Does the PDF diagnose health conditions?
No. It is a data summary, not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or a health recommendation.
